WELCOME TO THE
2nd NAFTEMPORIKI SHIPPING CONFERENCE

About the conference

Serving 90% of world trade and interconnecting more than 3,000 ports worldwide is what makes shipping the protagonist of the international transportation sector. Greek shipping is the sector’s world leader, transferring from one generation to the next, the love, the soul and the passion of Greeks for the sea.

Greek owned shipping constitutes a main supporting pillar for the Greek economy, comprising over 7% of the GDP, providing tens of thousands jobs aboard or ashore, meanwhile supporting a manifold and rich -widespread throughout the country- social and humanitarian program. Indeed, Greek shipping is an international marvel but the heartbeat is local, it is here in Greece.

It is in this respect that the aim of the 2nd Naftemporiki Shipping Conference was to “grasp” that pulse while hosting representatives from all subsectors of the shipping industry.

Given the present extraordinary economic conditions, owners and representatives from shipowning, financial institutions, shipbrokers, ship operators, academicians, consultants, representatives from various entities and international organizations unfolded their views and visions regarding Greek shipping’s contribution to the recovery of the national economy and the reduction of unemployment, particularly that of young people. Also, matters concerning the international shipping competitive framework, the freight markets and alternative financing sources, the importance of technology and innovation to the shipping industry and the significance of the shipping hub of Piraeus were addressed and reviewed during the conference.
