Mr. Petropoulos holds B.Sc. Economics Honours Degree from the London School of Economics, and Master in Business Administration Degree from the Manchester Business School. He started his career in the family shipping business in London in the early 1970s. He has worked in various capacities in the international finance and banking sector and in 1989 he founded Petrofin S.A., an international shipping financial, advisory and research company. He has been a guest lecturer at UK and Greek Universities, a speaker at conferences and a contributor of articles to numerous publications.

Mr. Petropoulos has also been in shipowning and shipmanagement since 1998. He founded Petrobulk Maritime Inc in 1998, and Petrofin Ship Management Inc (PSMI), in 2005.
