Yiannis Moralis was born in 1968 in Athens and studied Economics. He is the son of late Minister Petros Moralis. He was always interested in commons and politics without, however, being member of a political party. He is the Mayor of Piraeus since September 2014.

The last 20 years he became active in Piraeus as a freelancer in Sports Marketing and Communication and as an executive in Olympiacos Football Club, taking significant positions of responsibility during his career in the club.

Ιn 2011 he was appointed General Manager and Vice President of the club, while in 2012 was elected President of Super League.
